At Valor Protection Dogs, we take pride in offering German Shepherd Protection Dogs in Boise, Idaho that are bred, raised, and trained entirely in-house. From the moment a puppy is born, we personally oversee and execute every stage of its development. Unlike many other protection dog companies, we do not outsource any aspect of training, breeding, or care. By handling everything ourselves, we know exactly what we are raising, training, and selling.
Breeding Our Own Elite German Shepherds
Previously, our dogs were imported from top European bloodlines. Since the CDC banned imports in 2024, we established our own breeding program. This allows us to carefully select breeding pairs for temperament, health, and protection drive, ensuring every puppy has the foundation for a successful future as a Family Protection Dog. Breeding our own dogs gives us complete control over genetics, socialization from birth, and early exposure to environments that prepare them for advanced training.
Raising and Training With Precision
From day one, each puppy is home-raised and socialized personally by Justin and Amy. We focus on:
Positive reinforcement
Building strong bonds and trust
Early obedience and home manners
Gradual introduction of off-leash control and protection instincts
Exposure to real-world scenarios
Every dog receives hundreds of hours of hands-on training to ensure they are fully capable, obedient, and safe in any environment. By the time a dog completes our program, it is ready to protect its family while remaining a loyal and loving companion.
We Train Our Own Decoys
Advanced protection training requires decoys, and at Valor Protection Dogs, we train our own to ensure safety, consistency, and realistic responses. We also travel across the country to work with trusted decoys who understand our methods and standards. This hands-on approach guarantees every dog is prepared for real-world protection scenarios.
Excellence Is Our Standard
We don’t take shortcuts. Every dog must meet strict criteria before it can be sold as a Family Protection Dog. Our approach is shaped by decades of experience with military, police, and family K9s, including training green dogs, tracking, detection, and apprehension work.
Amy served in the Air Force and Wisconsin National Guard, working extensively with K9 teams and specialized training programs.
Justin served 21 years in the Air Force and Idaho National Guard as a SERE instructor, including multiple overseas deployments, with hands-on experience in K9 tactical operations.
Discipline, attention to detail, and the pursuit of excellence guide everything we do—from breeding to raising, training, and placing our German Shepherds. Every dog we produce is the result of our commitment to these standards.
