There are protection dog companies who take the first buyer or the highest bidder that comes along. Not us. One of the promises I made to myself before getting into this industry is that we would carefully select the best possible homes for our personal and family protection guard dogs. They may be status symbols for some, but to us they are living, breathing creatures. They deserve exceptional homes. In order to ensure our protection dogs have a great quality of life in their new homes, we have three hard and fast requirements for anyone interested in buying our dogs.
1. Our dogs must be treated like family.
Our protection dogs have been home-raised and professionally trained. They are used to living inside, going places with us and working and playing throughout the day. They are not to be outside-only dogs. They are not lawn ornaments. They will not be sold to one person and cared for by someone else who may not have a vested interest in the dog’s well-being. In order for our dogs to bond with their new families, they must be part of the family.
2. Our dogs will not be sold to homes with dogs who are aggressive.
We have worked hard in raising our protection dogs to ensure they are social and friendly by nature with dogs and other pets (cats, chickens and other livestock etc). If the family who buys our dogs owns other dogs, the dog/s must be friendly. We will not sell our dogs to homes where they could be attacked. Beyond that, we will expect our buyers to advocate for our dogs and never intentionally put them in harm’s way with a dog who is known to be aggressive. Our dogs are friendly, and, while they will not hurt another friendly dog, they will also not back down from a fight if that’s what they have to do to protect themselves and their loved ones. Additionally, other dogs in the home must have basic obedience training (which we are happy to help with).
3. Our dogs will not be kenneled 24/7.
Our protection dogs are active and enjoy being with their families. They are highly trained and easy to live with, but they still have needs. They will need exercise and training on a regular basis to keep their skills sharp and stay fit physically and mentally. They will not thrive if they are kenneled the majority of the day or locked in a house. They need to stretch their legs and be given a good quality of life as valued pets and protection assets. In order for them to do their job of protecting their families, they must be with their families, not locked up. That’s why we work so hard to train our dogs to the highest level – so that they are well-behaved and enjoyable to be around no matter where you are and so that they are always welcome anywhere you go thus allowing them to be free to do their job. No dog is happy living its life in a kennel. We want only the best for our dogs!
We carefully interview interested buyers to ensure their homes and lifestyles are a good fit for our guard dogs. This will help ensure that our dogs go to the best homes, so that we can feel at peace knowing they will be well cared-for and can do their job to protect their homes and loved ones to the utmost of their abilities.
